Fear
How scary is Batman to villains and even other heroes? Showcasing the best feats that display examples of Batman inspiring fear in the heart of many as shown in DC Comics.
During his training years before he became Batman, he strikes fear in the heart of a large group of pit fighters (who even fought in death matches) after they witness just how tough he is and what he can do without even resorting to lethal force (Batman v2 #23 - Backup Tale)
In his first year as Batman, he scares so much a drug pusher that the guy is hellbent on confessing even after an attempt on his life is made (Batman #407)
Knowing that Batman makes regular sweeps in some areas of Gotham keeps the streets free of crime (or a dead zone) for a certain amount of time in those areas
Just the mere sight of him is able to make a room full thugs break down in fear and trembling to the point of actually being paralyzed as if he were a horror movie monster. He also does Plastic Man a favor by scaring his son (current hero name: Offspring) straight who was being badly influenced by the same gang (JLA #65)
Able to make thugs run away in fear by just ordering them to leave (Batman #559)
Able to make even armed thugs actually give up and run in fear of him plus throw away their guns as well (Robin #17 1993)
Despite being vastly outnumbered he forces an entire gang to run away in fear instead attempting to fight him (Nightwing v1 #96)
Able to get even a zealous cult follower of the Demon's Head (Ra's Al Ghul) to talk without resorting to torture which Henri Duncurd (Batman's former mentor) was about to use in order to get the zealot to talk who was unsuccessful in his threats before Batman stepped in (Legends of the Dark Knight #144)
Despite being badly weakened to the point of almost dying and in very poor shape due to being infected by a lethal virus, Batman is able to scare a terrorist kidnapper enough to make him escape, despite the terrorist was aware of Bats being seriously ill (Batman: D.O.A.)
Able to make Firefly take off and run away with just a glare after Firefly sees him standing over the unconscious Black Spider (All-Star Batman #1 2016)
Makes Green Arrow think twice before throwing a punch at him (Green Arrow #5 2001)
Steals Grifter's gun out his hand and immediately makes him give up without a fight knowing that Batman is way out of his league (JLA/WildCats)
Hitman
- Sneaks up on Tommy Monaghan aka Hitman (a meta human killer/hitman for hire) and scares him so much that he nearly wets his pants (JLA Hitman #1)
- Being infected with an alien parasite at the time, Hitman recommends that they (the JLA) tie up an unconscious Batman immediately who by myself could take them all out according to him and would be even more scary with any kind of super powers (JLA Hitman #2)
Able to make even a Talon (an undead super human assassin) feel fear plus force the Talon to retreat after a short battle (Batman The Dark Knight v2 #9)
Despite how powerful he is, the very image of Batman is able to spook and immobilize Clayface with fear once he's completely surrounded by an entire unit of GCPD cops who are simply wearing Batman's cape and cowl which leaves Clayface vulnerable to be trapped (Batman The Dark Knight v2 #23)
Despite being known as the person who once broke the Bat, a serious physical powerhouse, and a well known reputation as being one of the world's most ruthless killers not even Bane can inspire fear into the hearts of Arkham Asylum's inmates nor get the same level of respect as the Dark Knight. To counter this, Bane creates his own Batman costume and decides to become Batman to wage war on Arkham's most dangerous inmates/Gotham rogues so he can take over Gotham for himself while Batman is absent at the time (Forever Evil Arkham War #3)
Here is Luthor's plan to deal with Batman, in case the Dark Knight shows up in Metropolis which involves basically hiding until he's gone and hoping other criminal activity will distract him (Superman Batman #72)
Scarecrow
- Scarecrow was able to terrorize all of Gotham City and is on the verge of killing Robin, but he is stopped by Batman, who beats him at his own game of inspiring fear (Detective Comics #836, see Detective Comics #835 to have more instances of Scarecrow having Gotham in the grip of fear)
- Before being chosen to represent the Sinestro Corps, Scarecrow mentions that only Batman has the ability to scare him something not even Black Lanterns can do and wanted to lure Batman out just to feel fear again since he's addicted to the feeling of fear (Blackest Night #6)
Green Lantern Guy Gardner
- He is able to stop a brawl caused by Green Lantern Guy Gardner and scare him into sitting down (Justice League #1 1987)
- Martian Manhunter is able to keep Guy in check by just threatening to call Batman which makes Guy then sit down and behave (Doctor Fate #15 1988)
- Years later, just to show that some things never change, here is how the Dark Knight persuades Guy to "reconsider" his "application" for the position of JLA's leader (JLA: Secret Files & Origins #2)
Able to make even someone as powerful as Firestorm (Jason) afraid of him despite Firestorm knowing he's far more powerful and even showed Batman proper respect as well (Firestorm #25 2004)
Plastic Man disguised as Batman is able to contain a bloody prison riot from breaking out which included super powered criminals (incited by Mageddon-possessed Hector Hammond and to a lesser degree by the Shadow Thief) simply by showing himself as Batman from a distance (JLA #34)
Scares a powerful magical werewolf (created by Eclipso and proved powerful enough to dominate even Superman in a fight) so much that it transforms back into human form. We then learn that fear actually saps it power (JLA Showcase 80 Page Giant)
After seeing him take down a giant Demon Hound solo he quickly makes Apokolips soldiers surrender plus take off their armor (off panel) by simply ordering them to do so (Superman Batman #12)
Sneaks up on the new god Metron and manages to get a fearful reaction out of him (JLA #14)
Chosen as the first representative of sector 2814 for the Sinestro Corps (Green Lantern #17 2005)
Proves more than capable of wielding a Sinestro Corps ring (only those with the greatest ability to install fear can) in battle against Power Ring (an evil Hal Jordan from an alternate earth) despite it being the first and only known time he's used it. However, due to the charge on the ring being so low on power it proves to be not much use in battle (Forever Evil #4)
Parallax (cosmic entity of fear) is able to sense a disciple is near who happens to be the Dark Knight which is confirmed by the fact that Bruce is chosen to join the Sinestro Corps as shown in the previous feat (Green Lantern #17 2005 reference feat) before this one (Green Lantern Rebirth #5 2004)
